J.T. Carey

J.T. Carey is our Senior Regional Vice President of the Eastern Region. He brings over 15 years of Financial Services and Capital Markets experience to his role at Versity Invest.

J.T.’s career started as a Financial Advisor with Ameriprise, to gain access to a more open architecture platform where he could focus on managing his client’s investments, he moved his business to Wells Fargo Advisors. Starting in 2008 the financial crisis created myriad real estate opportunities. So, in 2010, he started raising capital for Resource Real Estate. Resource was acquired by Blackstone in 2022.

In 2014, after helping raise over $600MM for Resource, J.T. and his wife, Jamie, moved back to Philadelphia, PA to be closer to family. After evaluation the real estate landscape and reviewing several opportunities, he became Vice President of the Northeast with SmartStop Self-Storage. Smartstop was acquired by ExtraSpace Storage in 2016.

After 4 great years with Smartstop, with three successful funds and helping raise over $1B, J.T. was invited by CLIR Capital to be the Regional Director of the Northeast. J.T. was attracted to the platform due to CLIR Capital’s alternative lineup, entrepreneurial environment, flat management structure and, most importantly, the ability to bring top institutional strategies to his clients in the retail market.

JT Carey is a life-long Penn State fan and a 2006 graduated from The Pennsylvania State University with dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Finance and Business Management. JT Carey was born and raised in Wilkes-Barre, PA and after a few years traveling and living throughout the country currently resides in Upper Dublin Township in Montgomery County Pennsylvania with his wife Jamie, a D.N.P., at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and their three children, Greyson, Elliott and Joanna. For relaxation the Carey’s enjoy traveling, playing golf and cheering on the Phillies and Penn State.
